We use Cybex XP 4040 KVMs in all our racks. The interface cards that we
purchased for them only support PS2, but xserves seem to work well with a
USB->PS2 adapter cable. I've never had a server go deaf like you described
with the Dr Bott. The only thing that doesn't work are the startup key
combinations, but on an xserve that isn't much of a problem since much of
that can be done from the front panel.
I wonder if anyone has developed a bluetooth-based keyboard/mouse switch
yet. Seems like a natural application for that sort of thing.
