Define "what" isn't starting. Postfix is a mess of cruft.
My mail logs are full of these:
"fatal: open lock files pid/master.pid: unable to set exclusive
lock: Resource temporarily unavailable"
Something else currently has the lock.
The GUI shows mail running and stoping and starting mail from the
GUI is not reflected in the logs.
During my efforts I have had this error replaced with:
"fatal: bind INADDR_ANY port 25: Address already in use"
Something is currently using the port.
The only obvious source of this to me was perhaps sendmail but I
double checked and it is not running on my system.
Sendmail doesn't exist unless you installed it.
Otherwise I have postfix running fine on this system. FYI I am also
running amavis (clamav / spamassassin) on this system.
So you've munged files from their defaults. This would mean we don't
have a good picture of how your machine is configured any more and
would need a lot of further info or access to it to investigate.
Most likely you have postfix already running.
