I see the same problem on many machines. Unsanity software (www.unsanity.com) has the following free solution, at least for Safari.

Safari, free web browser from Apple, suffers from a very short request timeout - 60 seconds. Some database-driven report pages and others fail to load because of that timeout. SafariNoTimeout is a haxie that allows you to change the connection request timeout in Safari to a different value (by default it sets it to 10 minutes).

SafariNoTimeout is an essential tool for any web developer or a user who has ever experienced an annoying 60 seconds timeout while waiting for a web page.

SafariNoTimeout is an InputManager plugin. Application Enhancer is not required for this haxie to function.

The goes for all client apps... Safari, Mail, even the Software Update. Any ideas how I can find out what is failing or why?
