AD+Samba+Win clients problem

I have a new server that I want to integrate into an existing Active Directory setup. That is, the server is standalone, and I'd like its users (both Mac and Win) to be authenticated against the existing AD database.

I have added the AD to the authentication search path, and the domain users show up correctly in Workgroup Manager. From my Mac, I can log on as a domain user fine. From Windows, the server shows up fine in the browser, but I can't log on using a domain account (Windows complains about incorrect username/password), though I CAN log on using an account local to the server. So Samba is running fine, but isn't handling the authentication of domain users correctly.

I'm a newbie here, and from what I've read it sounds like the solution lies in smb.conf (which I have not changed), probably the "auth methods=" line (?). I have searched this list's archives, etc., with no luck, which surprised me--I expected this to be a pretty common scenario.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Ben
