Re: DNS Problem

One of the things that I find very strange about this problem is the simple fact that if you open a shell and run a host, dig, or even nslookup command on any sites they will always reply fairly quickly, which to me states the that DNS server on the 10.3.5 machine is still properly resolving and working, its just not sending the information to the client (even if the client is running on a web browser on the DNS server itself)

I can't understand this problem but it is indeed very annoying...

From what I can remember, the 10.3.5 update has been out for over a month and I have not had any problems with it. I would point closer to perhaps a security update. I believe the last update I installed was the ARD 2.1 client update. I wouldn't see how that would cause an issue but in the post below, even a clean install of 10.3 still caused some issues...What other security/ OS updates have been run outside of the 10.3.5 server update?

Spoke too soon - seemed to work for about 10 minutes - now it's doing the same thing again.

I even downloaded a newer named.ca file from ftp://rs.internic.net/domain/named.root but still the same.

Meanwhile, my quickdns running on OS X 10.2.6 is running fine.

Well -

I don't know what caused the problem. But what I did was a clean install of 10.3 on the same xserve. Set up BIND using the GUI - and now it is running fine. No problems.

Needless to say I'm not going to be doing the update to 10.3.5.

It seems it must be something in that update or a recent security update that caused the problem.
