A lot... try this:

$ dscl -p -u adminldap /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1/ -create /Users/nicolas


Actually the distinction is pretty subtle, since in the Oliver's case he's authenticating to the host and you're authenticating directly to the node. This could probably be considered a bug.
