Re: Using dscl to create users in my ldap directory

Michael Bartosh, in his wisdom, wrote:

$ dscl -p -u adminldap /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1/ -create /Users/nicolas

Actually the distinction is pretty subtle, since in the Oliver's case he's authenticating to the host and you're authenticating directly to the node. This could probably be considered a bug.

Hmm...after following this thread with a little interest, I tried this as a test on one of our servers, and it returned this:

gdc:~ ted$ dscl -p -u adminldap /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1/ -create /Users/frimble
Password:
Data source (/LDAPv3/127.0.0.1/) is not valid.

I can assure you that LDAPv3 is working fine on this box, which is an Open Directory master. Variations on a theme, such as " dscl -p -u adminldap /gdc.groupd.com/LDAPv3/127.0.0.1/ -create /Users/frimble" fail with the same error. Everything else on the box appears to be working fine. I wonder what this could mean. Hmmm indeed.
