Re: Windows Home Directories and PDC/member servers -- changing /etc/smb.conf

Good point. Does "serveradmin settings smb:setting value" let you
set any samba directive, even ones Apple doesn't normally use?

AFAIK, you're limited to what's listed in the output of "serveradmin settings smb", with no other arguments. But there's quite alot there, far more than what's available in the GUI. Now that my server is live, I'm loath to "try things" with the serveradmin command, but if you do discover that you can use it to add other directives not in the list, please let us know!

If you make changes, you can also keep them from being
  overwritten with "chflags". See:

We certainly had to do that.

Yeah, I was just hoping to avoid doing that dance. So far, I've been able to, but my samba setup is fairly mundane. YMMV.

Also, you can disable roaming profiles at the client side with a registry tweak, which is how I did it for my site.

True enough...requires some diligence to make sure it's always done.

You betcha, and if you have a thousand clients, I could see how you might be more interested in a server-side solution for this one! =8-)
My office is a small one, so this method worked for me. Of course, had I known about serveradmin settings at the time, I would have simply used that to clear the logon path, as you have.
