I have an G4 Xserve running OSX 10.3.5 that likes to spontaneously
reboot itself. There doesn't seem to be any correlation to times;
sometimes it reboots at 5am, sometimes at 2pm. The server has a fair
amount of load on it, it's a pretty beefy web server running Apache
doing about 15-20gb of data (2 - 3 million hits or so) per day.
There's nothing in the system.log, other than the following:
Sep 29 05:09:01 localhost sshd[29705]: Did not receive identification
string from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Sep 29 05:15:00 localhost syslogd: restart
Well if you suspect Apache to be your issue wouldn't looking at
Apache's log seem more sensible?
Likewise have you reviewed watchdog's log?
Is there any way to turn on some type of kernel debugging so I can see
more clearly what is going on?
That would produce volumes of useless output.
I have another server configured as a
mirror to this one that has been up for over a week without any reboots
or hiccups.
Is it running in step with the other or just sitting there?
You do realize that watchdog runs on your server and if it sees
certain repeating failures it will restart the machine, right?

had an "unresolved kernel trap (cpu0)" error. The server is brand
new (tho running for about two months with no problems), fresh from
Apple, with a SCSI card and ATI video card. I'll test the RAM I
guess, and cross fingers.
Not that your reboot and the original posters have any reason to be
related, but analyzing any crash dumps might be in order, no?
