I need to admin a few devices, and Im tired of using an old crusty
Dell laptop. I'd love to use my iBook, a USB to serial adapter, a
serial cable, and Terminal.app. Can it be done?
You'd need to describe the devices.
Can I use Apple's Terminal app instead of traditional terminal
emulators (like Z-Term) for connecting to serial devices such as
routers, RAIDS, etc?
Terminal.app is a terminal window to the local machine. It's not a
terminal emulator.
ZTerm works nice, and has reasonable VT-100 support and a Aqua GUI.
Minicom is a non-GUI VT-100 compatable emulator with decent support.
Niether offer full VT-100 support. The best is WRQ's Reflections
package, which offers a GUI.
Anyone know if there is an OS X version of Reflection's coming out at
all?
If it is possible to use Terminal.app, then how do I config the usual
settings like 8,N,1, Xon-Xoff, 19200 baud, No wrap, VT-100, etc in
the Terminal app?
You don't, as you're attached to a local "tty" class port, not the
serial port.
Which USB to serial adapters will work with OS X 10.3? Keyspan?
Belkin? Do I need drivers?
Yes, yes, yes (included).
I need to admin a few serial devices, and I'm tired of using an old
crusty Dell laptop and WinTerm. I'd love to use my iBook, a USB to

You're repeating yourself.
