10.3.9 client AD Win2000 Server

Trying to bind my 10.3.9 clients to the Win 2000 AD Server. It's the only DC in a simple domain. The server is myserver.example.location.domain.com. I have configured 10.3.9 Directory Access thusly:

forest: example.location.domain.com (I understand the forest should have the name of the first AD DC)
domain: example.location.domain.com

computer id: mac client

prefer this domain server: myserver.example.location.domain.com (just to be safe)

allow administration by: example.location.domain.com\administrators (I had to add this to get binding to work - not sure why - thought it was optional)

When I hit bind, it seems to work fine. I authenticate as the domain admin, and it creates the computer account in example.location.domain.com\computers.

Then I add the AD server search custom search path that shows up under authentication, and also in contacts.

But I can't login with any AD account. In addition, the client takes several minutes to get to the desktop of the local admin account (this is a new clean install of 10.3 btw).

What have I missed?

If no one knows off the top of their head, could someone point me to a good How-To? I've been searching for a few hours and haven't found anything useful. It seems that if you can bind, you can usually authenticate. Apple's "Integrating Mac OS X with Active Directory" also doesn't seem to exist anymore.

Thanks, as usual.

Bret
