OK... I created a regular home directory via the WGM and I'm
forgetting about the web part of it for now. I have a home
directory mount point and FTP access enabled and the firewall is
open (I double checked the logs also).
I try to connect via the CLI (in verbose debug mode):

I can login but a directory listing fails.
Everytime I connect via FTP I get these in the system log:
DirectoryService[41]: GSSAPI Error: Miscellaneous failure (Server
not found in Kerberos database)

You could probably just turn on the inspector in WGM and change
the home that way. Or use dscl.
