Re: Dead server

Please forgive my ignorance and correct me if I'm wrong but I want to be sure I'm not wrong.

When you change and IP on a server you use the changeip command first and then change the IP in Sys. Prefs. right? Is there anything else that has to be done?

Single user mode only helps if I have a video card. Correct?

Once in single user mode what command do I use to reset ip's?

Thanks.

My server was a replica and we were trying to change ip's with the changeip
command. No video card. After changing ip it went dead. I can ping it. I
cannot ssh, I even added a serial cable to consol in to login and fix the
ip. Upon login prompt I have typed in root and admin and then password it
just times Out!

It's b/c you somehow didn't change the IP properly and now it can't talk to itself by IP to do any authentication.

What other ways can I change the ip of a dead headless xserve? Can I target
disk mode and change a file?

Use Single User Mode, not target disk mode.
