Re: how many home folders on a xserver?

hello jason,

thanks for info - space is no problem, we have a xserve raid with enough space left.

but my question was intended to get answers, if a xserve g5 dual 2ghz ist fast enough for 50 home folder users - any opinions?

thanks!

There isn't a specific limit -- It's going to depend on how much hard drive space you need. As long as you've got enough space to hold all their documents & whatnot, go ahead with it.

hello,

we are thinking about to buy a second xserve dual 2ghz g5. our first
xserve is open directory master, fileserver for windows- and mac
clients and netbootserver for our installation-images.

the second should serve homefolders. we have 50 imac g5 (10.3.9 and
10.4.2) that use at the moment the "portable home" feature. now we
would like to transform this 50 clients into real homefolder users.

unfortunately I couldn't find in the apple documentation how many
homefolder/clients a xserve g5 can handle. the imac user are normal
office-user (besides they make very large powerpoint-presentations)

so I would like to ask you about experiences - thanks in advance!
