The Software Update state crashed is a much bigger problem than you
think. Correct the problem so that the messages stop ASAP.
I re-booted the server to get rid of the problem, but there probably
is a process that could be killed.
The side affect on my server was that I had some web pages that were
computationally intensive, they started erring out with timeout
exceptions when I had this situation.
I have filed a bug with Apple regarding the bug in Software Update.

When I try to do a Software Update from the 'Update' tab in 10.4
Server Admin it gets stuck in the 'Scanning in Progress' mode and
gives this in the system.log:
Man, I just updated yesterday, but with all the problems I've had
since I'm doing any other upgrades right away!
Do you got a solution to this?
AFAIK Software Updates works without a problem and Software Update
Server also. So at the moment I think the only disadvantage is a
system.log getting bigger than it need to.
