SMB home dirs..on a PowerVault?

Maybe a dumb question - Is it possible to define a Mac OS X 10.4 workstation users' home directories on a (same subnet) PowerVault SMB share from a separate Mac OS X 10.4 XServe? (different subnet) In the way the manual describes, it only addresses sharepoints from the same server. TIA, Ed Dyer
