I have an xserve serving out a couple NBimages and when the clients boot form the image the machines keep giving an error that the startup disk (which is the image) is almost full... how can I correct this?

Make an image with more space free.

The local drives in the machines are FAR from full.

Yes, but if you're NetBooting, those machines aren't booting from their local drives,
they're booting from the image you made.

I know it looks silly, but that really is how it works. If it's a problem, use
NetInstall rather than NetBoot. This will reduce your network usage too.
