Re: Network time update



Here is what I have come up with since ntp was giving me errors. I issue the
following command using remote desktop, however all could be done through
ssh:

systemsetup -setusingnetworktime off;
systemsetup -setdate 08:30:05;
systemsetup -settime 11:25:45;
systemsetup -setusingnetworktime on


The real question here is: What errors was NTP giving you and why? ntpdate is the proper mechanism for changing the time on a system where ntpd is running.

The reason you want to use ntpdate instead of the above is that if the time you set in the mechanism above is too far out of line then ntpd will either exit, or take a really really long time to bring the clock back in sync (depends on how far out it is and some other factors that aren't worth going into).
