30 Aug 13:40:54 ntpdate[487]: the NTP socket is in use, exiting
This can happen if you're not running ntpdate as root.
Also I was getting a error stating that the server could not be found when
specifying time.apple.com or our local time server here on campus. All my
computers are running 10.3.9 with the latest updates.
Sounds like a firewall issue. time.apple.com (while not a great
choice) is definitely available.
