The hardware monitor should log the fault in /var/log/hwmond.log (if it's 
empty, check the hwmond.log.#.gz rotated logfiles, as your fault may be 
more than a day old and the log may have rotated).

Inside that file, you'll see the last recorded (not necessarily last 
known) value for each sensor, and it should indicate where the failure is.
