Can't see shared firewire hard drive

Hello
I'm using OS X Server 10.2.8 on an XServe. I have several shared folders setup and working properly. I've just added an external firewire hard drive to the XServe. Now, I want to share either the entire HFS+ volume or at least one of its folders. When I use Workgroup Manager to enable sharing for this volume I'm able to do so but the share point doesn't show up in the list of available volumes when I log in to the XServe.

I'm pretty sure that I haven't overlooked anything obvious when I setup the share point. I enabled access via AFP. I turned off FTP, SMB, NFS etc since that's what I want. I set the "owner" and "group" to "admin" and "allstaff" which is a group that includes all employees. There's no error messages when I set this all up and the firewire volume shows up in the list of shared items in Workgroup Manager.

Any ideas what is going wrong? Am I missing something? Thanks for your help. --Tim
