Re: Password rules not enforced

The rules only apply to users changing their passwords. As the administrator you can type in whatever you like from the Server/Workgroup Admin panel. Typically, I generate a random password, give that to the user, then allow them to change it to something they'll remember, but that meets my password rules.

I'm going to hazard a guess here that the rules only apply to users changing their passwords. If they manually change or are prompted to change their password the rules would be enforced.

What would cause password rules not to be enforced (in Mac OS X Server, 10.3.8). In Server Admin, Open Directory>Authentication has various items checked, such as Password must be at least 6 characters long, contain at least one letter, and so on. However, I can then create a new user account in Workgroup Manager that violates these rules.

Thanks,
Tom
