Re: File Permissions and inheriting permissions

Keep in mind that permissions and ownership are two different concepts.

When a user creates a new resource (like a file or folder), that resource will always
be owned by the currently logged in user and
have group ownership of the group owner of the enclosing folder.

If you select "Inherit permissions", then the resource will not necessarily
be the default ( rw for owner, read only for everyone else);
it will be whatever permissions the enclosing folder has.

It seems that the ‘Inherit permissions from parent’ works if you log into the share as the owner with read/write permissions. Can anyone explain why ????
