Re: printing woes

It's still kinda buggy. I have to restart the printer server every once in a while because the queues drop off Appletalk periodically for unknown reasons. Besides that, it seems to be working ok. If I could just get away from Appletalk.......

Hi All,

Have had a couple of Minolta colour printers set up using
Appletalk but the queues themselves are held on Windows 2000
servers.

Sometimes it takes a long time for jobs to finish spooling
and come through and other times one or the other printer
will not appear in the users' printer list.

I didnt hold print queues on the X-serve because I was told
by the Mac engineer who helped install the system that it
wasnt stable and was very buggy. Has this been resolved?
Do print queues work well enough on the x-serve now?

I am thinking of now having two sets of queues pointing to
the same printer. One for PC's on windows servers and one
set for macs on X-serve.

How are print queues set up on the X-serve? Will it work or
just give me more of a headache?!

Software version is 10.3.8 on both server and clients. Are
there any guidelines I should adhere to when printing via
x-serve? ie naming conventions, protocols. What is best,
what should I avoid?

Hope someone is able to give a clear straight forward
answer!

TIA

Saeed Ahmed
