Booting from a raid is a bad idea- just pain bad. I tried it just with a
test box thinking it was going to be faster, better, stronger, etc. If it
was, I didn't see it.

Why not just have the share on the RAID? We have two 250's (or 200's, can't
remember) doing this and it's fine but then we also have Sonnet hardware
RAID IDE card doing the RAID. (yea, I know it's still SW - lets hold off on
the flames)

This is now being backed up to another mac running apple's SW RAID with two
250's in it. Works nice. We are running new tests using Deja Vu- I like is
because it is in one place, seems to work better than others, and is easier
to use. There may be better things out, but if they are a pain to set up and
use, I won't do it. We have "you synchronize" but it chokes doing large
backup's.

(I'm a sucker for a pretty face) going to the same box, and also a intel
Linux box with a bunch of drives as a FTP server. I must say, FTP is so much
freaking faster... Then again it may be my set up with the old way that's
slower... I really don't think it has that much to do with the intel
hardware.

We still use retro, but it's getting to be a pain. The only thing it has
going for it is we have it, it's set up, and has data compression and a
catalog to find the right tape... (no auto loader)
