Hi all. As described in an earlier post, a client has one PC user who
can't connect to the Xserve G4 running MOSXS v.10.3.6 from _any_ PC
workstation; however, he can authenticate against AD just fine and log
in from a Mac. Other PC users can connect to the Xserve just fine.
Here's the contents of the smb.conf file from that machine, which _is_
bound to AD, FWIW:
Offhand I don't see anything alarming in /etc/smb.conf other than
printer admin = unknown, @staff
which would allow any guest user (as 'unknown') full control of printers,
but that's not related to the problem at hand.
Of course since the problem is authentication for a single user across
multiple PCs, it's also relatively unlikely that it would be the Xserve's
fault directly since the Xserve is not doing the authentication.
I would concentrate on the attributes of the user who's failing.
First, see if it's at all related to the Xserve, i.e, can this user,
when logged in to a Windows PC, use a share from another Windows PC?
If not it's some Windows issue with the user account.
If he can, then you should look at the Windows service log on the Xserve
for clues. Start by looking at the log entries for one of the successful
user. Then compare those entries to the ones for the user who's failing and
post them here.
