Server Admin is now showing the FQDN in the title bar. WGM is still
wonky. This may have something to do with the new IP addresses that I
added and corresponding network ports. I added four of them:
I added them by duplicating the built-in Ethernet port xxx.xxx.xxx.26,
then changing the IP address. I hope that's the correct method. The
server has been xxx.xxx.xxx.26 all along. (The reason for adding the
four new Network Ports and IPs was because I'm working on four sites
that require SSL.)
DNS was changed for the four sites so they can be found on their new IPs
Now (with WGM) when I login to the server at (xxx.xxx.xxx.26), instead
of resolving to box.prod.com, it resolves to domain4.org. At least,
that's what's showing up in the title bar and in the "location" for
users. BTW, it doesn't matter whether I login using the ".26" IP or the
correct domain name, WGM resolves to domain4.org.
Any ideas?

This may take a bit of explaining, so bear with me.
I have two servers running OS X Server. One is a development server
(let's call it box.dev.com) running at home on an old G4, the other is
a new G5 Xserve colocated (call it box.prod.com).
On the box.dev.com server, I'm handling my own DNS with two old
PowerCenters running YDL and tinydns, which works great I might add.
The DNS for the Xserve is handled by my colo provider. Here's what I'm
experiencing:
When using Server Admin or WGM to administer the box.dev.com server, I
see the FQDN of that server in the title bar of the apps, just like
I'm supposed to. Also, in WGM, when selecting a user in the Accounts
pane, his "location" is listed as box.dev.com/NetInfo/root. just like
it should. (I believe)
Now, the problem... When using Server Admin or WGM to administer the
colocated box.prod.com server, I get the IP address in the title bar
instead of the FQDN. And worse, in WGM, when selecting a user in
Accounts, the location is listed as 30-empower.myispdomain.com.
"Empower" is the name of the LLC that is paying for the colocation. It
has nothing to do with our network. "30" is one of the addresses on
our subnet, but not the one designated for the server! That should be
xxx.xxx.xxx.26!
Oh, I just looked at the title bar again, and now it too reads
"30-empower.myispdomain.com"! UGH.
This is a totally new issue. I noticed it last night when trying to
create a new user. I couldn't for the life of me create the user's
home directory. That's when I noticed the weird DNS stuff. My ISP is
acting like nothing is wrong. If I had to guess, I'd say it's a
reverse DNS problem, but I'm no DNS wiz. What do you pros think?
Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks,
Eric
