i originally got this info from apple server tech support - they want
there to be three entries in the custom authentication pane - netinfo,
ip, fqdn. they told me that without all three entries that any error
anywhere in dns or od the clients would get lost - this way they
always know where the home actually is.
I've never had to do this.
The only reason I can imagine you would have to do this would be if you
have an unreliable DNS server.
