What other configuration info are you going to loose? If you do not have too
many users in the netinfo db then it will probably be easier just to
recreate them. You can backup all your apache, and other service config
files using the root account. One thing you may want to do is boot the
server in firewire mode and then rsync the whole drive to a backup location.
Then you can simply grab config files as needed to restore them.
I'd suggest just creating a .dmg of the volume instead. You can
create it compressed and it's all in a container so it's easy to
mount as a separate volume and it doesn't interfere with any other
files. You can either boot from the installer and create the image to
any available filesystem or can boot as suggested off another machine
w this connected in target disk mode.
