Network trash folder and Windows Server 2003

Sorry if this is a little OT, but I cannot seem to find the right info online.

When our Mac OS X Panther clients are using the Macintosh File Service on a Windows 2003 Server, they cannot put files in the trash and delete them later. As soon as they drag something to the trash, a dialog comes up and asks them if they want to delete the file immediately. Since not all users read alerts, I've already had several accidental erasures occur.

I confirmed that the Network Trash Folder is present on the Windows 2003 Server volume, but apart from containing the map file the Finder uses, there are no subfolders. Does this have something to do with permissions? They seem to look all right. I could find no configurable settings on the Windows Server end.

Does this normally work on Windows 2003 Servers? If so, what could I do to fix it?
