Sorry if my meaning wasn't clear. Dan is right. It doesn't directly "affect" MySQL. It affects a lot of things *using* MySQL. Which in turn affects the usage of MySQL. Which, to take it to its logical end, means using MySQL in Tiger Server has some issues. I hope everyone wasn't too terribly confused by my original statement. Seriously, though - he is right - the new location is more secure, and I think that might be why you're still experiencing problems... did you check the permissions on /var/mysql and see if that is causing any issues? Also, that KBase article doesn't tell you how to adjust your installation to use the "old_passwords" - you should check to see if that is causing any issues as well.
