Sorry if my meaning wasn't clear.

Dan is right.  It doesn't directly "affect" MySQL.  It affects a lot of things *using* MySQL.  Which in turn affects the usage of MySQL. Which, to take it to its logical end, means using MySQL in Tiger Server has some issues.  I hope everyone wasn't too terribly confused by my original statement.

Seriously, though - he is right - the new location is more secure, and I think that might be why you're still experiencing problems... did you check the permissions on /var/mysql and see if that is causing any issues?  Also, that KBase article doesn't tell you how to adjust your installation to use the "old_passwords" - you should check to see if that is causing any issues as well.

Well changing all this without letting one know (I read readmes and if its it there I missed it) is not good. Further, I would have hoped that ANYTHING that Apple did to move locations or change stuff that would cause breakage for anyone migrating from Panther to Tiger would be especially documented in a migration readme - nothing that I can find.

I went to the support site and got the socket change but I can't find anything about passwords and the "old" flash, php and regular scripts access to mysql.

phpMyAdmin 2.5.6 says:
#1045 - Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YESS)

also previously running flash can no longer access mysql.

All help is appreciated.

Tom

This doesn't affect `mysql`. It affects things using the socket, like poorly coded PHP.
