Inaccessible files with transparent/invisible icons on Server 10.3.x

I have a situation where the icons of some files are transparent/invisible and some of them are not accessible to users of a shared volume on a fileserver running 10.3.7 (other files which have transparent/invisible icons are accessible, as are files with regular icons). The access permissions seem to be correct in that they are -rw-rw--- and the user trying to access them is in the correct group even though they don't own the file. Any clue why this would be happening and how to fix both the transparent/invisble icons and the inaccessibility? Oddly enough, this is only occurring to one user out of a userbase size of around 30 or so.
