Have had some very unsatisfying out-of-the-box experience with
Mailman under Panther and now same under Tiger. Out of the box,
fresh installs have (fatal?) errors when creating new lists
(appended example). No list has ever operated as expected. Do get
an initial message from a given list to the list admin but that is
the last thing received from Mailman for a given list. Suspect that
the OSXS installed Mailman does not work, wasting time?
When given "I can't get X to work for Y", why is it people jump to
the conclusion that "X is broken"? Obviously if it was broken for
everyone then the problem would be fixed, especially after 10 point
releases of Panther Server.
Will keep plugging away at this but if anyone here has any pointers,
sure would appreciate it.
How about some pointer for us? You're too vague.
So far, it is like buying a new car and then immediately having it
towed to the shop for repairs to make it road-worthy.
How is that helpful or applicable to help us help you? Insulting our
server product wins few hearts and minds who'll want to help you.
Bug in Mailman version 2.1.4
We're sorry, we hit a bug!
If you would like to help us identify the problem, please email a
copy of this page to the webmaster for this site with a description
of what happened. Thanks!

At last, something somewhat germane. Unfortunately it has no context
for us to understand why you got this.
Looks to me like you might be trying to create a mailing list and it
can't add the necessary aliases (note the operation not permitted).
But who can tell.
