If you can, take a look at the active open files on your SMB server -
especially look for resource forks. We've seen an issue pre 10.4
where a file opened off of an SMB share will open the fork, and upon
closing the file the fork does not get relased - so it stays owned by
the first person who opened the file - this causes the 2nd person who
opens the file to have a file that appears to be read/write, but when
they actually try to save they'll either be denied, or have some sort
of odd error message. The fork will not be closed by the original
user until the SMB share is unmounted from that user.
The solutions we found that worked were Dave as it deals with the
forked files in a different manner, and upgrading to 10.4 - pre 10.4
seems to create a temporary file under a different name that was
causing us issues - 10.4 doesn't do this anymore as far as we've seen.
Hopefully some of this will help you pin down exactly what your issue
is.
