Hi list.
I have a rather strange problem with my Xserve.
Some of them (10 out of 15), when told to reboot,
freeze the reboot sequence on the very first step, resulting, a
few seconds
later in an full-speed-fan-state?.
If I unlock the front lock, it continue its boot sequence without
problem. .......

Is it possible that you've got a FireWire drive attached with
something needed in the boot process on the FireWire drive? The
Xserve G5 won't mount FireWire drives unless the lock is unlocked.
IIRC that's just for the front port. I've run lots of FW tape drives on the rear ports with the front locked.
