that is strange. i was a bit frustrated to say the least when i was first 'locked out' by the front locking mechanism, but now i'm more thankful for it. it would be nice to have the option to set what it locks exactly as having it be strictly for hardware (drive removal and enclosure removal) would be cool. currently i have to leave it unlocked so i can use my kvm on the systems.

OK, the Apple docs are annoyingly fuzzy on this. They say that the lock might keep "some" devices from working on FW.

I can state, for a fact, that I have installed FW tape drives on multiple G5 Xserves and that they run with the lock on. I guess it depends on the device.
