I am using the Apple Admin guide for step by step setup of
the Mailman service, to wit:
Mail : Settings: Mailing Lists:
Check the "Enable mailing lists" box,
make the first-time entries for the Mailman administrator,
(password and email address)
hit the Save button.
As previously described below by Darich Runyan,
when you hit "Save" and wait and wait. Then go to another service
and come back to Mail, the mailman entries are gone gone gone.
This happens with the Mail service stopped or running.
The same thing happens if you quit the Server Admin
and come back in. Poof poof poof. Nada.
And of course you can't use the web browser interface to
create lists until the Mailman administrator has been created.
Anybody have theories about what to try next?
I gather that I now get to go investigate the
mailman command line interface for managing lists
instead of using Server Admin?

Try running mailman as root from command line:
/usr/share/mailman/bin/mailmanctl -s start
Also check Apples Admin guide for starting your mailman service step
by step :)

Thanks for the quick reply. I had tried to set up some list via
mailman with Server Admin and had no luck. Every time I selected
'Enable mailing list', entered the password and administrator email
the mailman list would pop up in the Lists pane but then when I
went to save it or navigated to another tab the mailman list would
just disappear. The logs said that the mailman user was not
configured, which is what I thought I was doing when I selected
enable and input the information. Have you seen this behavior? I
will give the web interface a try.
