This sort of performance is common in IDE/FW drives if you have
them in continuous use. Most drive elements themselves are also no
longer warranteed for longer than a year. The drive industry
figured you wanted cheaper rather than more reliable drives. It's
actually quite hard to find a drive unit with a five year warranty.
