OT: SchoolTool, Zimbra, XC Connect [was: iCal server]

Hi,

I wouldn't normally post OT but I'm getting pressed to upgrade Meeting Maker here.

I'd need a calendaring system for our 50 users where User A to be able to write directly in User B's diary and also be able to book meeting rooms and av equipment resources.

I'd love to be able to use iCal but can't find any 3rd party server solutions and have seen no mention of iCal Server in any of the Tiger server info released.

Should I just forget being able to use iCal as an office solution?

Thanks,

David.

Meeting Maker works very well for us.

It's not expensive. It shares r/w calendars & does resource booking very well. We're an all Mac shop but MM is cross-platform & the licensing is straightforward and easily scalable.

Apparently Apple uses MM for calendaring so I'm not holding out too much hope for an iCal-server solution.

The main downside of MM is lack of integration with isync imho.

Cheers,

David.

This looks promosing:

Zimbra Collaboration Suite

Zimbra <http://www.zimbra.com/> is certainly appealing for many reasons, not least:

Freedom of Client Choice

* PC - Outlook (Online, Offline, Cached Mode), Apple Mail and iCal, Eudora, Evolution, Thunderbird/Sunbird, RSS, etc.

* Mobile - Wireless devices "over the air" synchronization sans special client software: Blackberry, Palm, Nokia, Motorola, Good, PocketPC, etc.

Zimbra Collaboration Suite Beta 2 was released a few days ago.

iCalendar compatibility is important to me.

For the time being, I'm going for SchoolTool <http:// www.schooltool.org/>. Basic calendar and resource management, with group edit (comparable to delegate) functionality. If you plan to host the SchoolTool server on Mac, please note <http:// issues.schooltool.org/issue447> in relation to the current version 0.11.3.

In due course I expect we'll move from SchoolTool to either Zimbra (as it matures) or Meeting Maker (if its support for iCalendar reaches the desired standard).

XC Connect <http://www.xcnetwork.com/xcconnect.jsp> appears to synchronise and share but unless I'm missing something. it lacks the group edit functionality present in both SchoolTool and Zimbra.
