I'm running a dual G5 with apache 1.3.33, php5, and mysql 4.1
php5 is using gd (images are very slow to load on php and non-php pages)
When I load a page from my site, it takes about 8 sec.
When the time for the mysql to execute is 4.6657
but the 4 seconds to connect shouldn't be that long.

I haven't played with GD but a straight text page that uses PHP to access a
MySQL database shouldn't take 4+4 seconds. Do you have caching on for the
entire server or the realm ? It should be off.

Write another PHP page which just prints something trivial without accessing
the SQL database. Work out whether the delay is part of SQL or the other
things (Apache + PHP etc.) involved.
