OSX Server as Shared Address Book

I did a little searching on line and in the archives of this list, and found some rather lengthy but not altogether satisfactory explanations about how to achieve this functionality in Tiger Server.

My client wants to have an address book that they can all reference in order to facilitate being able to connect with shared contacts outside the company/domain. Generally this should be a very easy thing to do with LDAP but the setup seems anything but straightforward. (Even without using exchange, this functionality is easy to set up and access in Active Directory).

They would also like to be able to edit the entries themselves, so this seems to preclude using a tool like phpldapadmin.

I found a nifty little app called Address-o-Matic, which uses Bonjour to achieve this functionality with Apple's address book, but then realized that several of the key users use Entourage for their email client.

I'm sure that one or more of you have done this, and I'd prefer to not reinvent the wheel so I'd appreciate some pointers on where to start.
