I have an entired directory on an OS X SharePoint that has lost its
permissions.
Impossible, as permissions exist at the filesystem level. The only
way there'd be no permissions (or ownership) would be you had a
foreign filesystem w/o any permissions.
Perhaps in your "urgency" you forgot to check to see what permissions
or ownership might currently exist with a simple `ls`?? Perhaps these
might even be helpful to us?
</flame-mode-off>
My users can browse the contents of the files, but when they try to
open a file, it says that the file is encrypted or not accessible.
Have you repaired your filesystem lately?
What does `ls` from the console say?
What owner/group combination can I change the directory to (and all
its children) so that my users can access the files on this
sharepoint?
Completely dependent on your policy choices.
Have you taken a look at your backup file permissions and ownerships
to see what they were previously? Or were you too caught up with the
urgency of trying to ask us?
