where is the preference file for a4 rather than letter? thats
something i really want!!!!!

What I did...
1) as my Admin user, went to System Preferences --> Printing and
set the default to 'A4' as desired.
2) In workgroup manager, go to the 'Preferences' and select the
'Details' tab. You should see all the preferences you've already
specified for the group your editing.
3) Select the 'Add' button and then navigate to your Library--
>Preferences folder and add the 'com.apple.print.PrintPrefs.plist' file
4) It should now appear in the list.
5) I then selected the 'Edit' button and expand the 'Often' group.
You should now see 'DefaultPaperID', 'String', 'iso-a4'
You appear to be able to do this for most preference files.
I've attached screen shots to help.
