I am attempting to size an XServe. I have done this several times
for companies that I consult with but wanted a sanity check on this one.
I am looking to provide (for a fee) mail and web service to my small
community. It will max out at roughly 4000 homes. It is very
community focused and should be an easy sell. I want to provide
100megs of space, and a personal web page, and maybe allow weblog
feature. In the future it will also have the jabber service turned
on. I am pricing at only 14.95 per year! My connection will be T1.
I will have a front page called the porch where folks can get news
and links to other community businesses and allow businesses to
advertise as well as a link to the webmail login.
I am sizing an XServe dual proc 2gig of ram and hardware raid card (I
don't particularly like software based raid) with 3 500gig drives
raid 5. That will give me 1TB roughly of space.
Standalone Open Directory mode...
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Matt
