I am trying to install an SSL certificate from Verisign using the
instructions provided in the Apple OS X Server documentation.
Everything
seems fine, except when I try to restart web services, it fails. If
I turn
off SSL for the domain, the web services start fine, so the issue is
definitely with the SSL cert installation. I am using Panther server
(10.3.8, I believe) on a dual G4. I ran into this problem with an
old cert
and I thought that I simply had the cert re-issued and made sure
that all of
the carriage returns were removed in the certificate itself. I¹ve
tried this
without success.
Any suggestions? Is there an archive for this list?
In Apple's Server Admin application, connect to the web server and
verify that you have turned off the Performance Cache option for the
specific domain that is using the SSL certificate; this feature is
incompatible with SSL certificates. Yes, it does not seem to state
this simple fact anywhere in the manual. I wasted many hours myself
trying to figure out why Apache would not start when using a SSL
certificate.
Hope that fixes the problem for you.
