I've had this issue too.
On computer A, Word spins for 10 mins during launch..
Second login, Word launches right away.
Move to computer B, Word spins for 10 mins.
Second login on computer B, Word launches right away.
Move back to computer A, and you have to wait for the spin for 10 mins
again. So it's not enough to just suck it up once per user/per
computer, which would be bad enough. But users effectively don't want
to use a second computer after logging into the first, which defeats
much of the advantage of Network Home Directories.
fwiw, this is a site licensed version of Office too, so I'd be less
inclined to think that it needs to phone home. Maybe it does anyway,
but I don't need to serialize each install.
Really a pain.
