Has localhost resolution ever worked from your machine, or is the failure a recent thing? If recent, can you recall any changes you made that closely preceeded the failure?

Has never worked on my machines
In the "Server Settings" remote admin tool, is the machine's server name supposed to be listed with 127.0.0.1 or with the actual ip address of the machine?

Just add it to the /etc/hosts file and be done with it.
