I just updated ARD to version 2.2 and made a nasty discovery.
Previously, after talking with various folks at Apple, we were told
that we
need one copy of ARD Unlimited, and then additional ARD-10-Pack admins
can
hook into that unlimited one. The explanation given was that the
unlimited
license gave us unlimited capabilities through the house, but we
needed to
buy additional admins for additional CPUs that want admin power, and
those
only need a 10-pack license to do so.
So I had ARD Unlimited on a server, and support staff have 10-client
licenses, tying into that.
I just updated to 2.2 and am now being told that I cannot administer
more
than 10 clients. Additionally, it won't tie into the unlimited one,
saying
that it too needs to be unlimited to do so. This is in direct
contradiction
to what Apple had assured me was the way it was supposed to work.
So did they always license it that way, but had implemented it poorly,
or
did the license just change, or did they just mess up? In any case,
I'm not
too happy with my Apple sales rep right now.
Yes, sad but true. What on earth are they trying to do to us? ;-)
