That does not seem that bad for usage. I have ~60 users on the same
set-up. Now I am sure I never have every one on at the same time but
I never see the performance take a hit. Here are my MTRG plots for
an example:

Hello Folks
Here is the situation
We have a G5 2Ghz xserve with 4Gb of RAM plugged into an xraid.
(3.5TB)
We have about 180 users that connect to the server as various times
(via SMB) but usually in the morning there are about 50 to 60 users
connected at about the same time. This causes heavy load on the
server.
If I run top I get 70+ % utilization from smbd. Some times the
server gets so slow when ssh’d into the server it feels like
working on an old terminal via a 9600 line. You know, type a word
and wait for it to appear.
This server is also used for DNS Mail ftp Web NFS and opendirectory
auth.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to possibly tweak Samba to not
kill xserve?
I am running 10.3.9 with all the updates and the Samba version is
3.0.10
Thanks.
Lyndon
